Blake’s is a third generation, family run bakery-café, food store & Post Office on the edge of the Cotswolds. We make a selection of cakes and savouries daily, make sandwiches to order, and we are proud to bake our own bread from scratch every day. We make our famous cinnamon buns daily, and have a range of specials available during the week including the our own family recipe for Lardy cake.
Every day we bake a selection of real bread, including white, malted multigrain, wholemeal spelt, sourdough, fougasse, focaccia, brioche, ciabatta, croissants and pain aux chocolate. These are all handmade by us, from scratch. We add no preservatives or artificial flour improvers like most bakeries.
We make everything in our kitchen using only the best quality, natural ingredients; from the bread for your sandwich, to the falafel or home-cured salt beef filling. We also take orders for whole cakes. We are introducing fantastic new products on a weekly basis, many of them local.
Clanfield Post Office and shop was established by my grandparents Bob and Martha Blake, in 1963. When Martha retired in 1985, my Mum Janet took over the business and she’s still out front serving customers to this day. In November 2014 I moved back to the village, and left my job as a University Lecturer and Dietician to take on the challenge of running the business. I (quite literally) grew up in the shop, and could often be found weighing out pounds of potatoes or helping my granddad bake bread and cakes for the customers. This all must explain why I’m so passionate about eating and serving great quality food and drink.
